I get asked what the meaning behind Goosh is a lot. And by a lot, I mean every time I meet someone for the first time who has heard me referred to as Goosh. Some like to think that Goosh is a nickname with a sinister meaning, others like to think that Goosh is a meaningful and deep nickname with some hidden alternative meaning that is not only insightful, but is also inspirational. Unfortunately, it is neither.
I thought I would try to explain where Goosh came from. It might interest you, but most probably you won’t really care 😀
Originally, the name Goosh was an alternative to a previous nickname I was using when I was first getting involved in online activities. Due to personal IRL reasons I had to change the nickname I had used on forums, ICQ etc to a different name and after a very long drinking session in a Wetherspoons in Newcastle Upon Tyne a friend of mine suggested the name Goosh. His explanation of why shall always only be told in person and normally after a very, very long drinking session.
I used to use the online alias whilst playing online First Person Shooters (FPS) games such as Delta Force 2 and Return To Castle Wolfenstein. This has since carried over into my current addiction: World Of Warcraft.
With this I was always using the name Goosh on message boards, forums, blogs etc when I was using the name online during my web design & development days. This carried over into my search engine optimisation (SEO) research and before you know it I was known as Goosh in my professional & online life. Thankfully, most people don’t shout after me in the street with “Goosh, Goosh, wait up!”.
